Excerpts from the chat session with Sanjeev Chowdhury
MODERATOR: We welcome Sanjeev Chowdhury for a live Chat
Zp: So Good Morning
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Hi Zp. Good morning
Zp: How many months does it take from India if you apply for immigration to Canada
Sanjeev Chowdhury: On average, it takes about two years to immigrate to Canada if you qualify
Rajiv_NJ: Hey Sanjeev.. How r u doing??
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Hi Rajiv. I'm fine thank you.
IndoCanada: sanjeev why does it take 2 yrs for anybody to migrate to canada
Sanjeev Chowdhury: It takes about two years because there are so many people applying that we have a backlog and can't keep up with demand Anything you want to know about immigration you can find out at http://cicnet.ci.gc.ca.
MODERATOR: How did it feel to be nominated for the"Canadian Foreign Service officer of the Year" ?
Sanjeev Chowdhury: It felt great to be nominated. I was one of 28 Canadian foreign service officers nominated, but didn't win. However, I was really pleased with the nomination.
Zp: do you think we need to get in touch with the Canadian Commission if it has been 2 years plus
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Zp: The High Commission will get in touch with you if you have a file number. Just be patient.
IndoCanada: Sanjeev a lot of people who migrated to Canada have come back disgruntled.......is the economy still in a bad shape with unemployment being a major issue
Sanjeev Chowdhury: IndoCanada: I have been here three years and know hundreds of people who have immigrated to Canada in that time. Only 1 family that I know of came back, so I don't agree with your statement.
IndoCanada: what incentives does the govt offer for the mass exodus of Indian Intelligence being imported to Canada
Sanjeev Chowdhury: IndoCanada: Canada offers a great future for people who are intelligent, hard working and able to adjust to a new way of life. I think many people immigrate to Canada because they are adventurous and want to make a new life for themselves and, particularly, their children.
IndoCanada: what is your personal schedule like?
Sanjeev Chowdhury: IndoCanada: My personal schedule is crazy...really. I have never been so busy in my life. People in Mumbai are so hospitable that it keeps me hopping every evening from one event to another. I rarely have time for myself, but I don't mind. This is the life I've chosen, so I just roll with it.
Zp:Is it true that it takes more time from India than anywhere else
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Zp: No, it takes the same time from virtually every place in the world. The rumors that some places are faster than others are just that: rumors.
IndoCanada: Sanjeev ypou knoe of 1 i know of 10 across the country.......i am a placement consultant
Sanjeev Chowdhury: IndoCanada: I meet and stay in touch with many immigrants; most are very happy, but as with anything, there is an adjustment phase. I tell everyone moving there to be prepared for the first year to slog it out, suffer homesickness, and try and make the best of it. I had to do the same thing coming here...it wasn't easy for me to get used to living in Mumbai, but once I did, I have never looked back.
MODERATOR: You are having many First in your career what is the secret behind it besides the hard work any Special idea?
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Moderator: I live a very honest life, believe in working hard, admitting my mistakes and learning from them. I try new things, some work, some don't, but I believe in trying. I think that's the secret to my success.
IndoCanada: in places like Quebec.......where French is a language spoken.......what chances do people who do not know the language have? do they lose out to people who do?
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Indo Canada: Canada is a bilingual country, and English and French are spoken in Quebec. Yes, the majority of people speak French there, but if you are willing to learn, there are classes available to everyone and even if you can only speak English, you can get by easily.
Zp: If one has filed the application around March 1998 when do you think it should come through
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Zp: Right now, interviews are taking place for applications which were filed in Jan and Feb 98, so your turn is coming soon I would think.
smile: bonjour sandjeev
Sanjeev Chowdhury: Smile: Bonjour mon ami.
